Factors affecting UNICORE performance

This section

  • Investigates the effects of annealing, and assembly

  • Compares the DUO UNICORE with other core geometries.

AEM Cores is committed to a continual product test and evaluation program, the results of which will be posted on this website.

Designing to Australian and New Zealand Standards and using normal industrial trade practices we build transformers which are representative of our product range. The cores are tested for loss over a range of flux densities at various stages of production, including the following :

  • un-annealed

  • annealed

  • dry

  • bonded

  • incorrectly assembled

  • assembled correctly dry

  • assembled bonded and framed

The articles show the effects on core loss in Core type single phase DUO Cores as a result of different manufacturing and assembly processes. The results can be quite startling, challenging our years of experience in core manufacturing. We have learnt a great deal from these comparisons and provide them so that you may benefit too.

This is real data measured from real transformers, using normal industrial practice and assembly techniques.

Most of the transformers constructed for these tests go on to be load tested under AS3108 / AS61558 in a 'back to back' rig for the determination of temperature rise and verification of power rating under an insulation class.

DUO1 vs DUO3 Annealed/Un-annealed PDF Print E-mail

The following graphs depict the core loss response of a single phase DUO core weighing 30.5kg.

The cores loss was measured at various flux densities at 50 Hz.

Both DUO1 and DUO3 cores were sampled, in the annealed and un-annealed states.
